YAHRZEIT
The anniversary of death is referred to as YAHRZEIT, and is determined by the Hebrew calendar. Yahrzeit is an occasion for recalling the debt we owe to the past, as well as a time for dedicating ourselves to the challenge of keeping the memory of our departed alive and vital through our own meaningful and significant contributions towards the fulfillment of the ideals of our heritage. As such, the Yahrzeit is observed in the following manner:
A special memorial candle, or light, is kindled in the home for the entire sunset to sunset period. Yahrzeit candles are available please contact us for further information. The prayer (Mourners Kaddish) should be offered for the departed on the day closest to their Yahrzeit when the Torah is read, or if that is not possible, then a Shabbat Service directly proceeding the Yartzeit can be done.
If it is your desire to make a contribution to the Congregation in memory of your loved one, as is traditional, you may do so by sending in a check in memory of your family member (or friend) to the fund of your choice, or you may go to our "Tzedakah link" and click on the donate button.
If you do not have a memorial plaque and would like one, you may arrange to obtain one for your loved one by contacting the Synagogue Office at 661.325.8017.
