We welcome you to our site:

 (ברוכים הבאים)

We would like to welcome you to our B'nai Jacob of Bakersfield web-site.  We are a conservative Jewish congregation with a history of over 107 years in the Bakersfield area.  Although our links help introduce us to you it does not take the place of coming to visit us.  It is in this way that you will get to know our goals and intentions as a community.

We have great anticipation as we plan for this generation and generations to come in the Bakersfield area.  We are confident that with the proper Torah education our children and youth will carry on the traditions of our ancestors.  This is why we are encouraging Jewish Families in our area to come and join forces with us.   It is our hope that those that come will feel the love, warmth and sincere desire to build community.

L'Shalom,
The Board of Directors

Hankiot on the Jewish War Veterans Headstones

A wonderful history making day as the National Program Wreaths Across America invited the Jewish community and the local chapter of Freedom Riders who provide escort for veteran funerals to the cemetery, to lay Hankiot on the Jewish War Veterans Headstones.

The local representative Marylee Shrider said that last year when they placed the Christmas wreaths on the headstones they thought the Jewish headstones seemed 'lonely'. This is because the Jewish headstones have a plague stating that due to Jewish faith please do not place wreaths on headstone.

So, they worked on a plan and the Hanokiot idea came to fruition.

We are very grateful to Marylee and the local chapter of Wreaths Across America for acknowledging our Jewish veterans and their service. May their memory always be for a blessing.

Hag Samach and Happy Hanukkah
